Adventures in Eating™
Five years ago, Rum & Blackbird founder Moira Campbell fell head-over-heels in love with Hell's Kitchen, a bustling New York neighborhood full of artisanal bakeries, delis, barbecue joints, taquerias, and more. After a trip to Italy inspired Moira to start a business combining her favorite pastimes—eating and traveling—she decided to lead her first guided tasting tour in the heart of her favorite neighborhood. Hell's Kitchen's gritty western avenues and crowded restaurant blocks keep her on her feet, seeking out delicious food in unlikely places.
Moira's sense of culinary exploration began in Worcester, Massachusetts where she grew up perfecting her braising technique, reading old cookbooks, and lusting after high-end cookware. She graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 2001, and then from Clark University in 2005 with a degree in English focused on African-American Literature. She has worked closely with New York chefs and restaurateurs at Gail Schoenberg Public Relations and at StarChefs.com, an online magazine for culinary insiders.
Moira is a member of the James Beard Foundation's Greens committee and an event coordinator for the New York City Wine & Food Festival. In the fall of 2009, she enrolled in the Food Studies graduate program at New York University. Most days she can be found dining out at New York's newest restaurants, catering small fĂȘtes, or scouring the city's flea markets for vintage cookware.
